In Mumbai the city she was born in a family of middle-class parents. When she was a young stage, she was able to study dance. When she was in her early years when she first started to act as a child actress, most films that she made were not successful. Then she found her way to success and then was one of the most prominent actors in the Indian film industry. Following her marriage the actress took time away from performing until she returned. She played a major role in Gulaab Gang, a film that explores the struggles of women in India. Dixit is nominated to win 15 Filmfare Awards, out of which she won eight. Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian prize given to civilians in India is bestowed to her. She is also known for her charitable works.
